What can happen in two days. 

The NW corner of this image was disintegrating ice on 08 03 2015.

Most of it has cleared out in two days. Even without all the ice disappearing from the North Pole, open water that absorbs heat is dangerous. 

High concentrations of methane hydrates in the Laptev and East Siberian Sea are in open water now. 

So are reservoirs of "free" methane that Dr. Shakova from the International Arctic Research Center nervously talks about.
